Samoy Mainda is a proud mother of three children, two virtual learners and one traditional public school student, whose journey toward education freedom began in 2016. When her oldest daughter was blocked from enrolling in a virtual school after moving to Missouri, Samoy was determined to fight for change.
Having experienced the benefits of virtual learning back in Michigan, Samoy knew virtual education was the right path for her daughter. Determined to ensure all Missouri students had access to virtual schooling, she began homeschooling while simultaneously pushing for statewide access to virtual education. Samoy took her advocacy to the State Capitol, engaging lawmakers and community members to expand options for families like hers.
Advocacy became a family affair. The entire Mainda family collaborated diligently with Parents for School Options, and their hard work paid off on June 29, 2022 when they witnessed Governor Mike Parson sign HB 1552 into law. This landmark legislation ensured that all students in Missouri, regardless of their educational background, could access virtual schooling.
Today, Samoy continues to advocate for educational freedom and expanded learning options. She remains deeply committed to ensuring that all children, regardless of their zip code, background, or learning style, have access to a high-quality education.
