Autoclosure Legislation Threatens to Shutter Virtuals Serving Thousands of Tennessee Students
Senate Bill 2441 and House Bill 2420, supported by special interests, would automatically close schools labeled “low- performing” for three consecutive years — without parent input, transition planning, or individualized review. Closing a school does not necessarily lead to better educational outcomes for students and their families. In fact, many of these students will be sent back to the struggling traditional public school they were trying to escape.
